An 100% awesome weekend

17 hours of travelling, 8 hours of walking ... BUT ... 80 hours of fun!

Two hours on the plane from Adelaide to Alice Springs. The view was magnificent!

I've seen Uluru.

I've riden on an AWESOME camel called Eddie and now I've got a (soft toy) camel called Eddie! I've got proof I've riden on an awesome camel!!! (You may not see he's awesome but he was!)

On Thursday
Up early, left the house by about 8.15. On a flight to Alice Springs where we picked up rental car with all camping gear including REALLY cool Australian things called swags. They are canvas matress covers that you put a slesping bag in and you basically put them on the ground and look up at the stars with NOTHING at all above you! COOL AS!!!!! Spent a night at KINGS CANYON!!! What a lovely swim after 36 degrees!!! HOT!!!

On Friday
Wake up 6.00am! We had a (tiring) walk around and up the hill. I was tired after waking up early and then driving for 20 minutes before a 8km 3 hour walk (with a lot of teenagers from a school trip on the track too!)

Started walk at about 8am and finished at 11.20. It was around 36 degrees. Dad had already poured 1/2 a bottle of water on my head - so refreshing!!! Lunch atKathleen Springs, with no seagulls to beg for food, and then petrol and icecream back at Kings Creek where we had camped over night. Then, "just keep drivin', just keep drivin'".

Stopped at Curtin Springs and eventually got to a place where we could see ULURU!!!

I have seen ULURU!!!
Drove around "The Rock" with cameras out! and seeing Aboriginal men who own Uluru half way up the rock chatting - we couldn't hear what they said.
SPLASH! (that comes from me in the swimming pool: very refreshing!)
On Saturday
More walking for 10kn: 3 hours! Walked between Kata Tjuta rocks (sometimes known as The Olgas)
COOL!!!
Then a walk to only permanent waterhole near Uluru.
Drove to Stuart's Well for the night.
On Sunday
Headed home after an awesome weekend, stopping for a camel ride on Eddie.

A fun weekend!

On Saturday we walked to an island: Granite Island. On Sunday we went on a boat in the Coorong National Park by the Murray River Mouth. It was fun. There were two walks to go on:
1. A mozzie walk to the sea on the other side of the sand dunes.
2. A walk that had Aboriginal camps sites: proof from dark sand camping fires and big piles of cockle shells. There was fresh water underneath the ground. We dug a hole and drank the water that formed in it. Yum! It was quite like a desert really: high sand hills, blowing sand, HOT, HOT, HOT!

Friday

Yesterday I went to the South Australian Museum. It was really cool. There were fossils and other cool things like different cultural groups: Maori and some Papua New Guinea: where my Dad was born and grew up.

I enjoyed the delicious subway Mum bought me before going to a shopping centre: DressMart sort of thing where we wandered around until Dad came. When Mum or Mum and Dad were in shops, Shannon filmed me doing crazy things or making 20 second ads about “no smoking” or “don’t litter” on our cameras. Had lots of fun and have been for quite a while!

Monday 8 September

On Wednesday we went to the zoo and saw lots of cool Australian animals, meerkats, sealions, lions who ate littlekids hats that they threw near the cage, tasmanian devils and got to touch kangaroos and quokkas!!!

Yesterday (Fathers Day) woke Dad with banana pancakes (Yum!)

On Saturday went to the footy (Australian Rules): Adelaide Crows vs Collingwood (Melbourne) Magpies. Collingwood won over 100 to 94. Collingwood seemed REALLY happy about winning!(REALLY!) We had to sing the Australian national anthem!!! I just stood there doing nothing!!! (I didn'tknow what to say!!!)

Thanks for all the comments

It is SO nice to hear from you all!
Thanks for the emails that some of you have been sending.
(Mum says, "we are having trouble sending emails, have to do it on webmail which makes it a bit of a pain, so if you don't get replies back, sorry!") Kayli says, "don't feel unloved!"

Have a good day!

A fun weekend

Went up to Flinders Ranges for the weekend and saw some cute kangaroos!
It was a five hour drive. Dad drove it all. We also saw emus and heard kookaburras.

Made yummy muffins yesterday - we didm't grease them! Ooops! Never mind! (I ate some!)
